Serena Williams withdraws from the Cincinnati tournament due to injuryAugust 14, 2019
The American Serena Williams retired on Tuesday before her opening game at the Cincinnati tennis tournament, Premier category in women (WTA), for a back injury, another blow in her preparation for the US Open.
Williams, 23 times Grand Slam tournament champion, had also retired on Sunday in the Toronto tournament final with just four games with spasms on his back, giving the title to the Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
The US superstar, who trained Tuesday morning in Cincinnati, warned officials before her scheduled first round match against Zarina Diyas that she could not play.
