Serena Williams, fined 10 thousand dollars in Wimbledon for damaging a trackJuly 9, 2019
US tennis player Serena Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, was fined $ 10,000 this year for damaging one of the All England Club tracks with her racquet, organizers said Tuesday.
Williams, 37, was punished for an incident that took place during a training session before the tournament began on July 1.
The penalty "is for unsportsmanlike behavior" and "the reason is damage to a track," a spokeswoman for Wimbledon told AFP.
The 11th seed has two games this Tuesday: the quarterfinals against compatriot Alison Riske and a mixed doubles match with Scottish Andy Murray.
