Renault criticizes the current format of teams BMarch 7, 2019
Cyril Abiteboul confirmed that he and Renault are very concerned about the increase in the number of B teams on the grid.
There is the classic relationship, Toro Rosso and Red Bull. This traditionally plays an important role in the development of young pilots, but last year was a little different. Toro Rosso raced with the Honda engine in 2018, collecting important information before Red Bull's inaugural year with Honda in 2019.
Haas buys 70% of Ferrari parts, and Alfa Romeo currently receives a lot of support from Ferrari. Meanwhile, Mercedes works closely with Racing Point.
Abiteboul, head of Renault, says that this is very detrimental to the development of Renault. The French team is on a five-year plan to return to the top but Abiteboul claims that this will be difficult to achieve if the current situation of B teams continue.
"It looks like soon you will be unable to win the races if you do not have a B team. We see this as a serious problem that needs to be recognized by the FIA. We do not want to be part of a formula like that, "Abiteboul told Auto Motor und Sport.
Abiteboul added that a partnership with McLaren offered no solution because the teams were almost identical to each other.
