Neymar case: police accuse extortion and slander modelSeptember 11, 2019
Sao Paulo police concluded that there are indications that the Brazilian model that accused Neymar of rape committed crimes of extortion and slander, authorities said Tuesday.
Najila Trindade Mendes de Sousa told police in Sao Paulo that Neymar forced her to have sex during a meeting at a hotel in Paris on May 15.
But the police did not find sufficient evidence to frame the footballer and justice filed the complaint in early August.
Instead, in an investigation derived from the case, he concluded that there are indications that the young woman mobilized the authorities with a false accusation against Neymar (slander) and that she extorted it, according to a statement from the Secretariat of Public Security of Sao Paul. The São Paulo police accuse her of "crimes of slanderous denunciation and extortion."
The prosecution must now decide whether, based on that report, it denounces Najila de Sousa to justice, who in that case must determine whether to open a formal trial against him.
The player said it was a consensual relationship, then used to try to extort him.
The case had a huge international impact and further complicated the situation of the most expensive player in history, who had a year marked by physical, legal and tensions with his club, the Paris Saint-Germain, from which he tried to leave for the Barcelona, without success.
After losing the Copa América that Brazil won at home in July, Neymar returned to the Tite team last Friday and shone in the friendly against Colombia (2-2) played in Miami.
