Last weekend in the city of Budapest, Kincsem Park, the Laser-Run and Modern Pentathlon World Championships were organized by the Union Internationel of Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM). A race in which Madeiran Marco Pereira was in the spotlight, winning the bronze medal.
The event was attended by more than 700 athletes from 48 countries spread over various ages ranging from 10 to 60 years. The Ludens Club of Machico was represented by athlete Marco Pereira in Masters 50, who participated in the Laser-Run World Championship. On Saturday the Ludens athlete returned to the highest level, winning the bronze medal.
Portuguese athletes had some difficulty adapting to the targets used in this competition because they were much less sensitive to laser shooting. Marco Pereira also had the same difficulties, however the Ludens athlete managed to manage this setback by making a high level race.
The bronze medal won by the Ludens athlete is a remarkable result given the setbacks and increasing level of the participating athletes.
