Lyon goalkeeper's nightmare – exchanged in tearsMarch 13, 2019
Lyons goalkeeper Anthony Lopes owed the first CL meeting with Barcelona.
He would rather forget the return at Camp Nou.
The Portuguese left the plan in tears after releasing two goals and being injured – all within the first half hour.
The first meeting between the teams ended no longer in Lyon.
In the return meeting, Messi was close to breaking the target line in the fourth minute. But Lopes in the Lyon goal stretched out and managed that time.
After just over a quarter Messi got the chance again. This time from eleven meters when Luis Suarez collapsed in the penalty area. Lopes threw himself again, but it did little help when the Argentine chipped the ball into the net in classic Panenka style.
Left in tears
The uphill was even heavier after half an hour when Suarez released Coutinho who could roll in 2-0 in the wide-open goal.
Shortly thereafter, Lopes was forced to break the match after a previous collision with just Coutinho. The Portuguese could not hold back the tears as he stepped off the pitch and was replaced by Mathieu Gorgelin.
