From tragedy to reconstruction: how have other clubs rebounded?February 11, 2019
Tragedy in Flamengo. The fire in the temporary structure of the club has killed ten top-level athletes, who with millions of investments in recent seasons have achieved results and 'paid off'. Considered by many, the hardest blow of the 123 years of the history of the Flamengo Regatas Club, which still seeks explanations and answers.
O THROW! shows the stories of other clubs who also suffer from football tragedies and how they did to restructure and follow the path of victory. Cases such as Manchester United (ING), Torino (ITA) and Chapecoense give the example to follow. Check out!
The fight to recover from the tragedy that left 71 victims of the plane crash in Colombia dictated the club's pace in 2017. A year after the crash, the team finished the year with great pride: besides having won the Santa Catarina Championship, it ratified its permanence in the elite of the Brasileirão.
The work, however, was arduous. The vast redesign brought a frequent arrival of players – almost a whole cast, in addition to the use of several athletes of the basic categories – and the hiring of the technician Vagner Mancini were important in the resumption. It is worth remembering that the club did not accept a "bonus" for not being demoted in the following years.
BRAZIL OF BALLS
On January 15, 2009, Brazil's Pelotas lost two athletes and a member of its technical commission in a bus accident in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. Considered by many fans the greatest player in the history of the Pelotas team, Claudio Milar I was in the accident.
The reaction of the Xavante team came with three points: local investment, good management and support from the fans. The commerce of the city began to invest directly in the team that, with the board making good signings, made with the club did good campaigns in Gauchão. The fans also embraced the idea and started to fill the games at home, generating good income. The Brazil of Pelotas is in Series B of Brasileirão.
The Tragedy of Viloco occurred on September 26, 1969, when a plane crashed into a mountainous and difficult-to-reach area called La Cancha, located in Viloco, a town in the department of La Paz. of these, 17 players of The Strongest) and the five crew, passed away.
After the Tragedy of Viloco, The Strongest rebuilt the team with players loaned by Bolivian clubs and even Boca Juniors, who gave up names like Fernando Bastida and Victor Hugo Romero. In the field, the team gave result: was champion of La Liga of La Paz in 1970.
In 1958, Manchester United lost eight athletes from the squad in an accident in the city of Munich in Germany. The flight that took the delegation back to London, but due to snow on the lane was not able to take off. It fell after the attempt with 44 people on board and caught fire, among them were club fans, journalists and players, stars of the team.
With new signings, Manchester finished the national championship in second place. Having Bobby Charlton (one of his survivors in the disaster) among starters, the team was a FA Cup finalist. Already in the European Champion Clubs' Cup, he fell in the semifinals for Milan. The press attributed the return of the team on the football scene to director Matt Busby's commitment not to give up the club.
After the disaster in which the plane carrying its delegation collided with a church tower in 1949, victimizing 31 people (including 18 players), Torino still had a sigh of pride. He was crowned Italian champion of 1948/1949 (in solidarity, the other clubs also climbed juveniles in the final stretch of Serie A).
But the following year, the effects were felt: once the base of Italy's selection, the team was much more modest, and was only sixth in the Italian. Later, the team declined a lot, and even embittered relegations. The reconstruction came with time, long-term investment in the basic categories and structuring. With that, he returned to the elite of Italian football.
After the disaster of 1987, which culminated in the death of all players and their technical commission, Alianza Lima even had the return of retired players, Cubillas case. But it lost breath in the search for the title and was surpassed by the University that year. However, it was good to maintain the base for the following years and help the club to recover from the tragedy.
